Shopping Responsibly In London

The Keep Boutique

Borough | Lambeth (Brixton)
Visit For | Women’s fashion
Notable Brands | Bibico, Matt & NatPeople TreeThought

The Keep Boutique began as a labor of love when owner Kate Richards—frustrated with her poor quality wardrobe and less than satisfactory day job—began collecting and blogging about ethical fashion finds. At first an outlet for her discontent, in 2012 she quit her job mapped out a business plan, and opened The Keep.

The Keep Boutique is a one-stop shop for ethical and affordable clothing items from brands committed to integrity and sustainability. More plainly: it’s a shop to purchase clothes you will keep. Located in the buzzing Brixton Village, Londoners who live south of the Thames will be pleased to find this darling shopping space—perfect for all your sustainable fashion and accessory needs.

Cassius & Coco

Borough | Haringey (Crouch End) & Hounslow (Turnham Green)
Visit For | Stationery, gifts, candles, plants, & home decor
Notable Brands | Clement & ClaudeKlippanSeason Paper

One of the most charming home decor shops in all of London, Cassius & Coco is a quaint boutique selling hand-poured candles, plants, local art, ceramics, gifts, and more. And with two locations, it caters to Londoners living on both the north and west end of the city.

Cassius & Coco opened its first location in Crouch End in 2015. A concept space, the mission of the shop is to hand-select products from local and international makers focused on originality, sustainability, and quality craftsmanship. We love this boutique for its mission, as well as the fantastic selection of products. We also love the warm, cheerful, and bright ambiance. When you’re feeling gloomy from all of London’s rain, visit Cassius & Coco for a soft throw, hand poured a candle or lovely floral notebook.

69b Boutique

Borough | Hackney (Central)
Visit For | Women’s fashion
Notable Brands | Here Today Here TomorrowMatt & NatPeople TreeThoughtVEJA

We’re slightly obsessed with 69b Boutique—a small and airy shop on Broadway Market in Hackney Central. The owners believe in transparency and brand accountability, and the boutique only carries labels committed to sustainability and environmentally responsible fashion production. This means that you can rest assured that every item on the racks of 69b was ethically and consciously made.

While 69b looks quite small from the outside, don’t let the tiny (but adorable) showroom fool you.

The Third Estate

Borough | Islington (Holloway)
Visit For | Men’s & women’s vegan shoes
Notable Brands | FAIRNaeVEJA, Will’s Vegan Shoes

Primarily a vegan shoe shop, The Third Estate is one of North London’s most lovely gems. Inside, space has an earthy, natural ambiance, and burning candles smell of oak and cotton. With an entire wall dedicated to displaying vegan footwear, this laid-back boutique is the perfect place to find cruelty-free trainers, dress shoes, sandals, and (of course) Chelsea boots. The shop also sells reasonably-priced, sustainable clothing and accessories.

The Third Estate located in a somewhat discreet area so you probably won’t stumble upon it by chance unless you live in the neighborhood. Even still, it’s worth the trip. And it’s only a 20-minute walk from Camden Market where you can find some of London’s best vegan food trucks.
